Check Your Gear - Getting Ready for the 2026 Soccer Season

Mar. 10, 2026

With the 2026 Rutland Youth Soccer season kicking off on April 11, now is the perfect time for players and families to start preparing for the return to the field. A quick gear check and a little practice before the season begins can help ensure everyone is ready for a great start.

Essential Soccer Equipment

Before the first practice and game, players should make sure they have the basic equipment required for soccer:

  • Soccer cleats that fit well and provide proper traction on the field

  • Shin guards (required for all players during games and practices)

  • Soccer socks that fully cover the shin guards (Provided by RYSA)

  • A soccer ball for practicing skills at home

Checking that equipment still fits properly — especially for younger players who grow quickly — is a great way to avoid last-minute surprises before opening day.

Taking Care of Your Gear

Keeping soccer equipment clean and organized helps it last through the entire season.

  • Wipe down cleats after muddy practices or games

  • Allow shin guards and equipment bags to air out after use

  • Regularly wash socks and jerseys

Good habits with equipment help players stay comfortable and ready for every game.

Get a Head Start on the Season

The weeks leading up to the season are a great time to get back on the ball. Players can build confidence by spending a little time practicing at home or at the park.

  • Work on dribbling and ball control

  • Practice passing and first touches

  • Spend time kicking the ball around with friends or family

Most importantly, come ready to learn, work as a team, and have fun. We can’t wait to see everyone back on the fields as another exciting Rutland Youth Soccer season begins.
